Boxcar Children

Grandmother: Now this is a great series! Its about a group of kids, whose parents have died, so they have to live in a boxcar.
Granddaughter( 3rd grader): That's sad!!!!

Dog Books With Happy Endings

Girl (in the 3rd grade): I'm looking for books with dogs.
Dad (in a whisper): With happy endings!
Me: Gotcha, no Old Yeller and Where the Red Fern Grows.

ABC's

Boy (about 3 years old, working on an alphabet puzzle): This is hard.
Dad: Yeah, this is hard.
Boy: But we can do it!

Well, I did ask...

Me: How old are you, sweetie?
Boy: Seven...how old are you?
Me: 23. I'm old, aren't I?
Boy: Yes.

Now that's not something you hear every day....

Kangaroo Rats

We recently received 2 chinchillas in our children's department, donated by a patron. This is the reaction of the first kid who saw them.

Boy (about 8 or 9): They look like Kangaroo Rats!!!

Sushi

A boy of about 4 years old kept running up to the aquarium and "roaring" at the fish. He would run straight up to the fish tank, arms spread and mouth open, and let out a ferocious roar. He did this about 4 or 5 times, before I went over there.

Boy: "ROAR!!!!"
Me: "What are you doing?"
Boy: "Trying to eat the fish."

Pumpkins and Stegosauruses?

Boy (about 4 or 5 yrs old): I want a book on animals
Me: Well, what's your favorite animal?
Boy: Pumpkins....and...Stegosauruses!
